New Zealand – North Island

New Zealand – North Island
13th January 2016 Daniel

Arriving in Auckland after a 14 hour flight from Chile, we battled with Jet Lag for a few days before welcoming in the New Year. Here we would be collecting our camper van for a 5 week adventure. South from Auckland we took on the epic Tongariro Alpine Crossing. A 9 hour hike which was an incredible sight, seeing so much geological activity in one place, with an active volcano and sulphur vents billowing out vast amounts of stinking steam.

We then drove east to catch the sunrise in the eastern cape. This is one of the first places on the globe to welcome in the new day and luckily the weather cleared up just in time to catch the sunrise. Heading along the southern coast we stopped in Napier just in time to catch the National Road Race Championship and sample some of the amazing wine from the region. The final stop on the North Island was in windy Wellington where we caught the stomach churning ferry to Picton in the South Island.
